THE MOST IMPORTANT DOGS IN GERMAN SHEPHERD HISTORY

V-Vello zu den Sieben-Faulen, SchH3 FH, SZ935874

Vello was born on March 20, 1956 and was a very big, long dog. He was so oversized that he could not be breed surveyed, which seemed not to bother anybody as he was widely used for breeding due to his type (Lex Preussenbult) and character. Malcolm Willis describes him as a dog of outstanding trainability, which he transmitted to his progeny and calls his line the most successful in German history as a working line.

He carried cryptorchidism and was possibly a source dog for pituitary dwarfism, He was also implicated for elbow problems. Paling colour occurred through his son Jalk.

Vello is the breed pillar where the first split between the conformation lines and working lines occurred, long after his time, though.

VA-Jalk vom Fohlenbrunnen, SchH3 KKL1, SZ973652; is considered to be the most influential son of Vello, as he is the bridge which will lead the breed to Canto and Quanto Wienerau and also Mark Cellerland. According to Malcolm Willis, Jalk, born on March 19, 1959 (who was linebred 4-4 on Lex Preussenblut and Maja Osnabruecker Land), is described as having good character (from Vello), medium sized (63.5cm) and medium strong (39kg(\) with a firm back and good angulations. He produced some color paling and cryptorchidism. He was VA-rated in 1961 to 63, produced 4 VA-progeny and the famous L-litter “Wienerau”. Willis also states that “the modern SV leadership seems happier to get Vello via Jalk than via the “B” litter “vom Lierberg”.

VA-Bernd vom Lierberg, SchH3 FH KKL1, SZ1026193, one of the famous “B”-litter “vom Lierberg”, which was repeated three times (“D-litter, “F”-litter, and “G”-litter). Bernd, born on March 16,1962, was VA in 1967, along with his brother Bodo. According to Willis, he seemed to have been the better producer than Bodo, although he only had one VA-offspring. He is described as balanced, over-medium size (64 cm) and has a good topline. He is noted to have produced excellent temperament and trainability, the color black, but also cryptorchidism. It should also be noted that, unlike his sire Vello and his half-brother Jalk, Bernd and his brother Bodo both had their hips a-stamped (as the SV started hip screening in the early 60s).

VA-Bodo vom Lierberg, SchH3 FH KKL1, SZ1026197, born March 16, 1962, a-stamped, was VA in 1996 and 1967 (Sieger), also Youth Sieger in 1963. Willis describes him as the best mover of his siblings (Bandit and Bernd), had particularly powerful thighs, was slightly long but with a firm backline and good angulations. Like Bernd, he is noted as a source of excellent temperament and trainability, black dogs, cryptorchidism and also some dog aggression. He was sold to the U.S., became American Champion in 1968 and received his ROM in 1973 with 5 am Champion progeny. His bloodline was ignored in the U.S. and reduced in Germany, because he had left. Therefore, Bernd is conseidered the more important producer.

Vello 7 Faulen, it was a dog where many discussion were about, he was line bred to Lex Preusenblut.

Vello got his breed survery in Germany, and lost this title later, because his height and bad colour, but..... he brought VA, s and he is in the pedigree of many Siegers, his son Roon 7 Faulen the youth Sieger 1959, a very masculine male was used much, also by the working breeders he had a top character for working, he was VA 1960 and 1961. Vello,s son Jalk Fohlenbrunen VA 3x, he was the father of the famous L Wienerau litter. Jalk gave the pale colour as well, he had 2 sister who were sable, the Vello sons Bodo and Bernd Lierberg VA and middle sized 63 and 64cm, the scene with of course the influences at their mother side over Arko Riederknapp the working champion, Bodo and Bernd gave as said teeth problems also cryptorchid, but the A stamp they gave very good, Bodo was sold, Bandit was also a good one, his faults were no mask and a short croup, they for sure Bernd gave drive in working, Bernd is in the most workingpedigrees, there was much linebred to them. One of the best children of Bernd was Sefee v Buseckerschloss, after vice Junghundsiegerin in 1966 she had a litter 12 puppies, in 1967 she was at the Hzsch 5 weeks pregnant, she got VA!!! she had not only in show but also in the working a top position, she brought 25 direct children with the A stamp !! (in those days ) 7 children of her were in the kennel SIEGEr group from Buseckerschloss from 2 different father,s !! it was also the last time with Buseckerschloss that Alfred Hahn had success on the Hzsch. He, the owner also of Greif Lahntal had more interest in dogs who were also dutiable for the working, many dogs of this kennel we have seen in working top sport/breed. To buy a puppy there was something special, he had his own rules.

The X ray started in 1966 and in 1967 started the courage test at the Sieger show (might be for a reason) from the VA group 1966, many top dogs didn’t pass 1966.

it was the time that dr Funk was the president of the SV and breeder, vom haus schutting, in 1971 dr funk died, a man who meant a lot for the SV as Judge and Chairman. if any body want to understand the GSD breed a bit and knowing the bloodlines with their bads and goods you have to study these (not only on paper) a data easy click on the pedigree base is therefore also not enough coat, ear problems. where do they come from, or size problems, or bigger problems as weakness in character, bad hips, elbows. Its therefore, most breeders from the world rely most in the German lines, the enormous knowledge, records and data by the SV about top dogs in the past and present like

The many shows and trials
The bundessiegers
The hauptzuchtschau
The progenygroups
The data
The korbuch
The zuchtbuch, the familys
All related to the dogs in the bigger competition, is a immense help for breeders.

THE R LITTER OSNABRUCKERLAND

Together with the Q one of the best litters out of history, sometimes history repeats, 2 brothers with top kennels Hans Dettmer with Osnabruckerland, and Karl Dettmer with Preussenblut, they and some others brought in the time after WW II

The German Shepherd breed further. The most influence in the R came from Rolf and Rosel. In 1949 was Reina Osnabr. L VA 1, a black female, in 1950 Rolf, again Reina and their mother Maja for the 2e time VA, Rolf sieger in 1951, Reina was sold, and Racker, did a few matings and got a accident and was out the European breed soon. but not only Rolf, but the biggest part of the litter, had a big contribution to the breed, very good characters, correct shoulders and (rolf) deep black yellow colours, Rosel, stop son Hein Richterbach did not reach VA, he was one of the better studs that time, but his sister Hella did, Hein braught also teeth (molars) faults, cryptoorchids. And good colours, Hein gave stretched dogs and middle size (grandfather Odo was 60 cm). Rolf was used much and also there was much line bred to him, the problems it gave were dogs with heavy weight, with deep chests, long backs, short legs. In 1955 Alf Nordfelsen was VA 2 a very good character and he had, what the Rolf line needed. length in his legs, good backhand, and this dog braught good, his line with Rolf, s fit very well and so became the famous line Rolf/Alf From Racker goes a line to VA Dago schloss Dahlhausen, from Rosel as said Hein Richterbach, from him came 5x VA Cesar was a line to Elch Wienerau to Caro Schaafgart em VA2 1968 this Caro gave may bad hips, and the SV ordered to X ray again, and the conclusion was this dog could never have had the A stamp, the owner was banned, but still some did use the dog. he is at the mother side of Sieger Dick Adeloga.

Quanto Wienerau SchH II VA 4x

One of the most imprtant males in the history of the GSD breed, this Quanto from a direct line to Rolf Osnabruckerland, Quanto was a very nice dog to see with his nice dark brown markings and he had a good forehand. It was a pitty he did not reach to Sieger, he had deserved it (he had just SchH II). Quanto was middle sized (his father was 61, 5) with a very good expression, a very good fore and backhand with strong tigh, s, and much power in gaiting. He was owned by ltalians (also Lido) but he was long time in Germany as stud, he had till 1978/1979 progeny groups and every groupe the off springs are with good forehand the dark pigment, strong bones, and uniformity in type. the croupes could longer. he came from a 3-3 litter his brother Qunio was the only other V dog the others were ZG or G,s. Quax got even Ausreichend, Quanto,s line with the Canto line did fit very well together, the famous Quanto/Canto combination. He had very good sons, Dick Adeloga; Sieger, he died very young. His second progency groupe was very good, Gundo Kloosterogen VA, he was a big dog with very good fore and backhand, his pigmentation was not the best, but very typical, Reza Haus Beck, Vello Unterhain, Reza Wienerau etc, etc. but his best son was Lasso di val Sole, 4 X VA (63,5) bred in Switzerland, a very harmious dog with a strong backhand and very nice pigmentation. H Martin said about him that he was again a proof that judgement about a male should not given before the dog is 5 years old, His mother had a close linebred to Dago Schloss Dahlbergen (upperarms, deep backhands) his progency groups became evry year better. Herman Martin bred from this Lasso one of his famous litters the X litter in this litter was Xaver Arminius a average V dog with a shy.. character, H Martin hired the legendary (very big) Plame Wildsteigerland for a litter and mated her to Xaver.... and this braught the most famous litter ever: the Q, and this litter has a (the) hughe influence on the modern show GSD today, with the most important successor of the Q, the Junghundsieger VA Odin Tannenmeise, this big (Dutch bred) dog was not the top in gaiting (lazy) but in stance he was amazing in Hamburg 1985 as he was Junghundsieger and (the judge did not let him gaiting beautifully). Odin walked in the progeny groupe behind Quando ...as the groupe came in the stadium.... Odin was just amazing

The line Quanto goes direct over Lasso Xaver-Quando-Odin Jeck(middle size good forehand but weak big ears and A3 hips----Hobby-Zamb (a typical Quanto type) The very Quanto type lca Reiterland to Quanto type VA Nero Hirschel. Ursus (3-3 Odin) – Yasko.

With a linebred on Quanto you had to watch Length, and deep fronts. even now after years one can still see the Quanto type in a dog, as for example. Uran Wildsteigerland has line to Quanto but himself he has the Canto tyupe Many many good dogs Quanto braught and there is almost not a pedigree, even in some working pedigrees, or HGH, except may be the pure workingdogs where he is not in.

The line from Quanto goes over his son Lassso to Xaver to Quando, to Odin over his 2 sons Zamb and Jeck

If we remember the Greatest dogs in history Rolf, Vello, It is through; QUANTO vd WIENERAUVA-Mutz on der pelztierfarm We can still see the importance of this line in our dogs now. This line is noted for good movement, tough temperament with a lot of drive, good hips. In general, the descendants had nice withers, overall good proportions, good front assemblies and pasterns. Mutz himself is described as a rather pale dog with a greyish tan pigment. His croup was steep and his forechest could have been more pronounced. Being of true medium size (63.5 cm) and medium strength., he was Vice World Sieger in 1970 and ltalian Sieger in 1970 and 1971 VA-2 Mutz von der pelztierfarm was born on October 11, 1966 out of Axel von der pelztierfarm and Heidi vom Haus Binkert. He was lkinebred on VA-Regina von Collonia Agrippina (3-3), Regina’s sire VA-Rolf vom Osnachbruecker Land (4,4-4) and VA-Werra von den Siebben Faulen (4-4). Mutz also carried the lines of VA_Axel von der Deininghauser Heide on his male pedigree line through VA-Alf vom Nordfelsen. His mother was linebred (3-3) on Va-Rolf and V-Rosel (who was the dam of Hein vom Richterbach). Rolf, Hein and Axel were (and are) influental dogs in the American bred GSD.

Especially the R-litter vom Osnabruecker Land was very popular during that period and was heavily linebred on (comparible to the Q-litter Arminius in the 90s). Because Mutz resembled the type of this R-litter, he produced some colour paling, short croups, long bodies, sufficient rear angulation and some roached backs. Other negative attributes included close ear sets, missing teeth, hooked tails, loose elbows, and short, steep upper arms.

Due to these negative tendencies, breeders in the 70s and 80s did not use his line as much.

Therefore, the descendants of note are through Mutz’s most important son V-Jonny von der Rheinhalle. Some other lines to nowadays dogs moght be through the A-litter “vom kilinen Pfahl” abd V-Jory von der Grone.

The A-litter from Kleinen Pfahl” also mede history: VA-Anderl is sound often in workingline pedigrees through his sons Ringo vom Ubotshafen and Enno vom Beilstein, the N-litter “vom Haus Marterstock (Nico, Norbo, Nanni) and Happy and Hexe von der bosesen Machbarschaft. V-Assie produced daughter Lissi vom Hermannsgrund who was the dam of some Wienerau-litters (VA-Ica and brother Iso are the ones of most importance). V-Anda was owned by Mr. Orschler and produced VA-Onex von Batu and V-Lady von Batu.
